
About Me
Dr. Tyeshia Redden is a distinguished academic with a distinctive educational background. Graduating from both Savannah State University and the University of Florida, she earned a Master of Science in Urban Studies & Planning and a doctoral degree in Design, Construction, & Planning, respectively. She is an active member of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning in which she serves as a co-chair for the Inclusion & Accessibility and the Urban Affairs Association for which she is a member of the Marilyn J. Gittell Activist Scholar Award Committee.
Currently appointed as an Assistant Professor in the University of Toronto’s Department of Geography & Planning, Dr. Redden is the social policy concentration advisor for the Master of Science in Planning program. Teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses, she enhances the core and elective curriculum with class topics that traverse contemporary policy debates, transnational discourses regarding justice, and planning history and theory.
Dr. Redden's research delves into the intricate interplay of class, gender, race, and sexuality in urban settings. She explores the experiences of marginalized communities and the crucial role scholar-activists play in addressing social inequalities. Her career has included research projects on behalf of institutions like the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University, Habitat for Humanity International, the National Institutes of Health, and the Office of the Deputy Chief Operating Officer for Development in DeKalb County, Georgia.
